The Rector’s Office and community of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) and the Ukrainian Catholic Education Foundation (UCEF) express their sincere condolences on the passing to eternity of a great friend of UCU, Jaroslawa Rubel, who reposed in the Lord on October 19 in New York.

Jaroslawa Rubel was an exceptional lady whose long and not easy but fruitful life of service to the community, in particular Plast (a Ukrainian scouting organization), is an example of nobility and vivacity.

Jaroslawa Rubel was born on July 12, 1924, in Bolekhiv, Ukraine. In 1944, she travelled to Munich, Germany, and in 1950 she immigrated to the USA, first to Philadelphia and eventually (from 1952) to New York. She was a young educator and organizer of educational camps for youth in the USA and England, head of the Main Plast Headquarters (2000-06), a member of the First Steps group, awarded the Order of St. George in gold and the award of an honorary citizen of the city of Stryi, Ukraine, and an honored member of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America. In addition, she was a member of the New York Friends of UCU Committee and a great benefactor of UCU and UCEF.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and join in prayer for the soul of the late Jaroslawa and ask the All-Merciful Lord to receive her into His Heavenly Kingdom.

Everlasting memory! Vichnaya pamyat!

Viewing will take place on Friday, October 26th from 4-9pm at Peter Jarema Funeral Home (129 E 7th St, New York, NY 10009) with the parastas at 6pm.
