‘Investment in Education Is a Deposit That Will Repay 100 Times’: Founders of Student Scholarships Met with UCU Students

To become part of a society that will change the world; to support young talents and create Ukraine’s future today. These were the thoughts shared by the founders of scholarships after meeting UCU students at the evening “Farewell to Christmas Carols,” which was held on 9 February at the Ukrainian Catholic University. This year, 39 scholarship founders and 64 student scholars took part in the evening.

This event is a symbol of generosity, joy, and goodness, and also a good opportunity to gather together and wish one another peace, harmony, and God’s blessings.

“We organize evenings like this so that scholarship founders can meet the UCU students whom they are entrusting and for whom they will in future contribute expenses. As every year, this is an unbelievably warm and joyful evening at which a circle of Lviv and Kyiv benefactors gather. The majority of them know one another, for they have supported our good tradition of such evenings for a long time. This is an opportunity for them to see old friends with whom they share a vision and trust in UCU. It is wonderful that UCU’s President, Bishop Borys Gudziak, was at the evening. He is always looking for opportunities to meet benefactors and thank them for their sincerity and generosity,” explains the founder and co-organizer of the event, Andriy Kurochka.

“I’m glad that we can organize such evenings, so the students have an opportunity to see their sponsors and the sponsors can see the bright faces of our future,” emphasizes Bishop Borys Gudziak. “We thank you for supporting our youth. I am pleased that our students have an opportunity to get acquainted, to sing, to enjoy carols and Christ’s presence among us. May this cooperation be a joint hope that will inspire us to go forward.”

The founders include people of various professions, but they are all united by a single goal, to support young talents.

“Investment in education is a deposit that will repay 100 times,” emphasizes Irena Nykulyshyn, a scholarship founder. “My grandmother once said that knowledge is the only treasure that you can take with you, something that no one can take from you. I expect that we will continue to be friends and rejoice in our students’ successes. They say that children should surpass their parents and teachers. May they be happy.”

Andriy Hrynchuk, Managing Partner at Hrynchuk and Partners Law Firm, supports students at the UCU Law School. He says that today the legal profession is in a deep crisis, and only quality educational programs can change this situation: “Of all the universities I know, I trust UCU, because I believe that this university can graduate specialists who can clearly distinguish law from deception, good from evil. I’m glad to be part of a community that in future will change Ukraine’s legal system and become the face of our legal culture.”

We note that, in total, thanks to Ukrainian benefactors, UCU this year has more than 160 people who have received scholarships (the general number of named scholarships is more than 250), which were given by 130 benefactors in Ukraine.
