Canadian Founder of L’Arche-Ukraine Celebrates Birthday

Thursday, July 19, 2012

Ukrainian-Canadian Zenia Kushpeta celebrated her birthday with a Liturgy on July 17 in the chapel of the Ukrainian Catholic University. Kushpeta founded the L’Arche community in Ukraine, the first post-Soviet country to embrace the movement which unites developmentally disabled individuals with friends.

Since Kushpeta first came to Ukraine at the start of the 1990s, the movement has changed the lives of thousands.

Kushpeta was one of Canadian’s leading pianists, but a meeting with Jean Vanier, the founder of the international L’Arche movement, led her to devote her life to people with developmental disabilities.
