UCEF Reflects on 2011

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

As 2011 draws to a close, we reflect on the year gone by and take this opportunity to thank all our friends and donors for their generous support and sincere good wishes.

2011 was a memorable year for the Ukrainian Catholic University and the Ukrainian Catholic Education Foundation:

We welcomed a new leader for our Church, Patriarch Sviatoslav Shevchuk, who visited the home office in Chicago and later Fordham University in New York, where he received an honorary doctorate

We started a Master’s program in Journalism which is attracting students from all regions of Ukraine

We witnessed a new campus beginning to take shape in the heart of Lviv, the first urban university campus to be constructed on the territory of the former Soviet Union

We traveled to New York, Chicago, Cleveland, Vancouver, Victoria Island, Seattle, Los Angeles, Orange County, Washington, DC, Toronto, Calgary, Montreal, Syracuse, with fundraising programs, lectures, films, spreading the good news about the University and the students it is educating to be the future leaders of Ukraine

We awarded Mustafa Jemilev with the Light of Justice Award for his leadership of the Crimean Tatar people and his work in defense of human rights and moral dignity

We were inspired by Father Borys’ vision, as he talked about the University of the 21st century and its goals to educate young people so that they can witness, serve and communicate in their communities, and in their daily lives.

We were grateful for each and every donation we received in 2011, including a $1.2 million Endowment from Canadian Ukrainian businessman James Temerty

2012 promises to be a blessed year, as the University plans to open the doors of its first residence hall (collegium) in the summer

And begin doctoral programs in Church history and theology
Start academic exchanges with leading Western universities
Initiate programs on Ukrainian-Jewish relations and women’s and gender studies
Continue to take a leading role in developing and promoting contemporary Christian reflection, moral integrity and responsible citizenship

We ask you to join us in our mission and MAKE A GIFT to help make all of our dreams a reality

If you have not contributed yet, you still have a few days to do so in order to take advantage of the tax benefits your donation offers in 2011. Perhaps there are unwanted stocks in your portfolio, or you would like to give us a year-end gift in the spirit of this Christmas season.

Wishing you the gift of faith and the blessings of hope! May 2012 be peaceful and blessed.

You remain in our prayers during this beautiful time of year and throughout 2012
